Vairagya Shatakam
The book Vairāgya-Śatakam, is a collection of 100 verses on detachment. It is part of the Subhāṣita-triśatī ("Three Centuries of Epigrams"), a larger work containing 300 verses traditionally attributed to the poet Bhartṛhari. Bhartṛhari is widely believed to be the elder brother of the legendary King Vikramāditya of Ujjain, though historical dates remain debated. The most consistent tradition suggests Bhartṛhari was a member of royalty who renounced his worldly life to become a yogi. His spiritual transition is supported by local landmarks, such as a cave near Ujjain where he reportedly practiced austerities.
