  • Named after the word kena ("by whom"), this Upanishad asks who controls the phenomenal world, answering that it is Brahman. It uses a story to illustrate that even the gods are helpless without Brahman and derive all their power from it. The goal of life is to realize oneness with Brahman. This direct, personal realization is called supreme knowledge(parā vidyā), whereas all other knowledge is considered lower (aparā vidyā). Attaining this true knowledge is the only path to liberation, bringing infinite peace and happiness.
