From Holy Wanderings To Service of God In Man
This book is about Swami Akhandananda (born Gangadhar Ghatak in 1864), one of the sixteen direct monastic disciples of Sri Ramakrishna. He met Sri Ramakrishna in 1883 at age 19, spending three formative years with him. Originally a strict practitioner of orthodox Hindu asceticism—focused on ritual bathing and dietary restrictions—he shifted his focus toward meditation, renunciation, and devotion through the influence of the Master and Narendranath (Swami Vivekananda). Following the Master’s death in 1886, he briefly joined the Baranagore monastery before embarking on a life as a wandering monk in February 1887, traveling extensively. The book captures his personal reminiscences and spiritual evolution under the "Great Master."
