The original volume, Great Women of India, was edited by Swami Madhavananda and Dr. R. C. Mazumdar and published in 1953–54 to honor the birth centenary of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi. On her 150th birth anniversary, an abridged version titled Eminent Indian Women was created for general readers seeking a shorter read. It includes almost the entire original text, except for the chapter "Evolution of Mother Worship in India," which was released separately.Swami Satyamayananda abridged the content, ensuring smooth continuity while preserving the original authors' styles and essential insights.
