Days In An Indian Monastery
This book introduces Sister Devamata, originally Laura Glenn, an aristocratic American from Ohio who found spiritual fulfillment in Indian philosophy. Her journey began in 1899 after meeting Swami Vivekananda in New York, leading her to join the Vedanta Society.
In 1909, she traveled to India, where her presence as a Westerner in Hindu temples was a rare sight. She spent two years under the guidance of Sri Ramakrishna’s direct disciples, living closely with Holy Mother (Sarada Devi) and Swami Brahmananda.
The book is described as more than a travelogue; it is a "spiritual diary" that chronicles the religious life of India. It captures the intimate interactions and spontaneous wisdom of the great spiritual figures she encountered and deeply revered.
